Fringe Jazz presents NIGEL PRICE / LORNE LOFSKY QUARTET at The BRISTOL MUSIC CLUB, 76 St Paul’s Road, Clifton. Bristol BS8 1LP on Wednesday 18th October at 7PM. Tickets £20.
Lorne Lofsky – Guitar Nigel Price – Guitar Ashley John Long – Double Bass Winston Clifford – Drums
Doors Open 7pm
Performance Starts at 7.30pm
Canadian guitarist Lorne Lofsky is literally a living legend, having toured and recorded with Oscar Peterson, Joey DeFrancesco and…wait for it…Chet Baker! He’s also perhaps more widely known in guitar circles as working and recording with the great Ed Bickert (guitarist with Paul Desmond).
Nigel Price is one of the most highly regarded and in demand guitarists on the UK jazz scene today. He spent three years with UK funk legends – the James Taylor Quartet, was voted No.1 in the 2016 British Jazz Awards for “best guitarist” and is also a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s, where he’s played around 600 times.
Ashley John Long’s fiery and almost impossibly virtuosic playing is really something to behold. Perhaps the most singularly impressive double bassist we have here in the UK.
Winston Clifford is absolutely bursting with music. Rated by many as simply one of the greatest drummers to ever herald from these islands. He’s not just a great drummer. If you’re lucky he might pick up a microphone and deliver one of his jaw dropping scat solos!
Tickets are also available at TREBLEROCK Guitar Shop, 52 The Mall in Clifton Village.

Jazz Factory, Bradford on Avon’s local club for aspiring jazz musicians, enjoyed its customary mid-term jam session at Wiltshire Music Centre on Monday 20th February, including several pieces penned by the members themselves. The evening kicked off with polyinstrumentalist tutor Ross Hughes’ group playing four numbers, The Peacock (written by member John Millichip), the obscure I Get the Blues, Spring Forward (by member John Iles), and finally the jazz standard, Rosetta. Tutor Rachel Kerry’s group performed a relaxed and tuneful version of Jobim’s bossa classic, One Note Samba, following which there was an entertaining interval from Rachel and singer Craig Mitchell performing the amusing comedy number F Sharp Live. The evening was brought to a storming finish with maestro tutor Mike Daniel’s ensemble playing another member- penned piece, Modal Flick by Ben Durrant, and climaxing with Sonny Rollins’ tune from the islands, St Thomas. Jazz Factory’s term continues until the end-of-term concert on Monday, 27th March, resuming at WMC on Monday 17th April. New members are always welcome, and there will be another public performance at the Party in the City in Bath on Friday, 12th May.
Bradford Roots returns for a day of great music to warm away the winter blues and celebrate all Bradford on Avon has to offer. Building on Lisa and Chris Samuel’s brilliant work since founding the festival in 2012, our new team of community programmers will fill the Centre with folk, blues, pop and rock, as well as workshops for all the family, great local food and drink and the famous wassail. A true feel-good event, Roots is synonymous with community spirit, local talent and an inclusive atmosphere.
Proceeds in support of Zone Club and Wiltshire Music Centre.
