SESSION NINE MONDAY 29th JUNE

FIRST HALF (7.40 – 8.00pm) Starter for 10

Interactive Webinar presented by Mike Daniels – (Everyone including vocalists). Now’s The Time continued and a chance to practice some blues forms in different keys.


SECOND HALF (8.00 – 9.15pm)

Interactive Webinar presented by Rachel KerryCreating a Virtual Track using GarageBand – continued.  You will continue to learn how to set up and find your way around GarageBand on Mac and iPad and we will practice importing the recorded tracks. We will combine them with other people’s recordings to create a band performance virtually. (If you haven’t had time to record, you can have a go at recording in the session, or just use the tracks others have made.)

SESSION EIGHT MONDAY 22nd JUNE

FIRST HALF (7.40 – 8.00pm)

Interactive Webinar presented by Mike Daniels – (Everyone including vocalists).  Now’s the time – beyond the basics. 


SECOND HALF (8.00 – 9.15pm)

Interactive Webinar presented by Rachel KerryCreating a Virtual Track using GarageBand. You will learn how to set up and find your way around GarageBand on Mac and iPad and we will practice importing some sample tracks. For homework, you will record your own instrument into Garageband as your contribution to our version of All Blues, and the following week we will combine it with other people’s recordings to create a band performance virtually. 

GarageBand is a fully equipped music creation studio, free to use on Macs and iPad. It’s easy to learn, play, record, and share to create your own music. This could offer a great way of creating music with others over the summer months!

Interactive Webinar presented by Rachel Kerry(For more experienced players). The ‘Play/ Rest Approach’ to improvisation. Easily assimilated and very effective.

Interactive Webinar presented by Ross Hughes(For less experienced players). Sus Chords and Modal Jazz: Maiden Voyage, Indo Jazz. A more advanced workshop, looking at the use of sus chords, and applying them to two quite different styles of modally constructed jazz, the classic Herbie Hancock tune Maiden Voyage and the more contemporary fusion style of Indo Jazz.

Interactive Webinar presented by Rachel Kerry (For rhythm section players and anyone else who is interested in rhythm work). Rhythm Section Workout. We will briefly recap on last week’s session on the art of ‘comping and the secrets behind the teamwork of the rhythm section to achieve great time and swing feel. We will be also be looking at Brazilian styles; ‘comping rhythms, bass lines, and how to sound great as a rhythm section. We will put this into practice by learning some attractive less known tunes as well as dipping into famous Jobim classics

Interactive Webinar presented by Ross Hughes (For Eb instruments). ‘Oh no, Rhythm Changes!‘ Integrating jazz language and rhythm changes for Eb instruments.

Interactive Webinar presented by Mike Daniels (For Bb instruments & Flute). I Got Rhythm, but where do I get the harmony?  I Got Rhythm – Meet the Family. Learning to use your ears with no apology for Anthropology, Oleo, and the Flintstones.

Interactive Webinar presented by Ross Hughes (For Eb instruments). ‘Oh no, Rhythm Changes!‘ It’s not as hard as it looks. We will transcribe and practise melodic cells and apply over changes of this very infamous and well-used chord sequence.

Interactive Webinar presented by Mike Daniels (For Bb instruments & Flute).  I Got Rhythm, but where do I get the harmony? Bb and concert specific solutions to soloing on the pesky “rhythm changes”.
